Do they still use mercury in thermometers?

I left a thermometer inside the back window of my car. The heat caused it to get so hot that it broke. Have I contaminated my car with mercury? I know I have owned the thermometer for a few years. Help?

yes most of the time, but they also use a different material, not sure what it is called. take you car to the shop and they should be able to tell you if it was mercury or not. you may even be able to buy a test from the hardware store to test and see if it was mercury. i would try that first. maby even see if you can find the same product and read the label on it at the store.
