Why does my cat drop her toys in her water dish?

My cat loves to play with anything, but she has a strange attraction to pink toys. One of her favorite things to do with them is run around the house with them in her mouth. Often I will hear her stop playing and go out to the kitchen to find her toy in her water dish, and sometimes right next to it if she misses.

I'm just trying to understand what her motivation behind this is. Any ideas?
