what small town near Seattle??

20 years ago I was visiting USA (Seattle). I remember I vent to a town in a kind of a dessert not far from Seattle. This small town was build in wood - old western style with svingdoors to the bars, sheriff office, jailhouse etc. Someone told me they use it for making western movies and so. Do anyone who live in this area know the name for this city?
I think around 3-4 hours driving, but can't remember for sure.
I remember I was driving up in some cold mountain area, then I pass a big dam and some miles later on the way down from the mountain I was suddenly in a kind of dessert (I believe) where it was really hot.

If you were in the desert, you were probably in Eastern Washington, which is about a 2.5 hour drive from Seattle. I am thinking you were in the town of either Winthrop or Twisp. These towns are in a popular tourist area of Washington called the Methow Valley. I remember visiting these towns and seeing what you described; western style saloons, etc.
