Affordable Ways to Improve Trailer Suspension Performance

Is it legal to add brakes on a boat trailer ?

Hello, i am looking at adding brakes on my boat trailer. Reason being, its not legal for my car, my cars towing capacity is 1000kg with brakes, and 550kg for a trailer with out brakes. the boat weighs 700kg.So the question is, in NSW australia am i allowed to buy a trailer brake kit online, install it my self and be legal? or is there a place that does this ? is it even possible to put brakes on a trailer that Originaly did not have any ?

the towing capacity has nothing to do with the law, it has to do w/ the performance of the car... it cannot properly control a towed trailer of that weight, thus it needs brakes....
