The boat owner can use the boat as a cabin or place to live in. Wet docking is only good for areas where the water never freezes.

A number of docking facilities now provide electricity, water hook ups, cable TV, telephone service, security and heated storage units. Staying on your boat can be an exciting experience. On the other hand, if you choose not to live on your boat, numerous marinas provide full winter protection for your boat. When your boat is wrapped up in storage be sure it can breathe to avoid mold and mildew formation.

Consider economy and practicality in looking for a good storage venue. Keeping your boat in a trailer on your driveway gives you a lot of benefits. You can sail or fish during one pleasant day in winter. You can navigate various bodies of water while saving on boat storage fees. Requirements for towing a boat on a trailer across the border into canada?

I own a 16 foot pleasure craft, and i want to take it across the border into canada to use while i'm on vacation. It is registered in Michigan (boat sticker) and meets all of the coast guard regulations (lights horns emergency flares)

are there any additional papers or things i may need to clear customs and operate on lake huron (close to shore)?

make sure that all the trailer lights safety chains and things are in order. in ontario the boat has to have an additional chain or tiedown device in front in addition to the winch rope. I have known people to be stopped and checked for this! have proof of ownership and proper documents for both trailer and boat. if you are just going on a trip its very easy, but to leave a boat in canada requires alot of paper work(for summer, month etc, and return to use it later). in canada the pfc's have to be blaze orange mandatory. check with local customs or go to the ontario ministry of natural resources for upto date regs. ps check boat for left over beer bottles or other illegal items that are not allowed into canada(cant drink at all in boat or have open containers that means old emptys too. live on borderlake in mn and ontario have boated in canada all my life.
