What part of the suspension should be bearing the weight of a wheel whilst jacked up?

Hi all,

A question for the mechanics, what part of the suspension should be holding a wheel, strut etc. up when the car is jacked up?

I've noticed on my car the front right-side wheel no long lifts with the rest of the car when I jack it up, and the suspension comes out of the suspension mount.

I noticed the stabilizer bolt has broken so the strut is not longer connected to the stabilizer bar, but is this the ONLY thing that holds the suspension up? or is another component damaged?

What car and what type of suspension ?
If your car has McPherson strut suspension then it is this which holds it up. so either your strut is broken or the top bush is broken or badly worn.
Edit:
The stabiliser link is only there to reduce body roll on corners. its needs fixing but is not the main problem
It is either item 1 or 7 on the diagram that is the fault.
If you get a second hand strut complete with spring it will come with item 7 anyway.
If you get a new strut you will need spring clamps to replace it.
Or take it to somebody who know what to look for. It is hard to diagnose faults like this without seeing the car.
