Can I connect a male USB to male Cat5 ethernet adapter cable to my Wii for network ability?

It's a cable I had laying around, I think originally intended for use with a USB modem. I already bought the Wii LAN adapter which is a male USB to female Cat5 receiver. The receiver is a small box that seems to have some "guts" to it, so I'm worried about trying my other cable and potentially damaging the Wii. If my cable works I'd just sell my Wii LAN Adapter.

I wouldn't try it. It could be any kind of cable depending on the pin-out. Two cables that look the same could be completely different in the wiring. You could potentially damage your Wii. I would stick with the Wii LAN adapter.
