Diy Shower Enclosure Installation: Do It Today

Fitting a shower cubicle or shower enclosure may be easier than you imagine, even for the very first time. Whether you're a novice or something of a DIY expert, by following these insider tips and the instructions supplied with your shower package, fitting your new shower cubicle should prove to be surprisingly simple.

Always buy your supplies from a recognised high street merchant, so as to ensure proper guidance is given when it comes to highlighting the suitability of your chosen shower enclosure. Your personal options will depend on your bathroom as well as your individual taste, so do seek thorough advice concerning what's needed, what's right for you and perhaps most importantly, what's not right for you or your bathroom.

Remember, budget models are usually cheaper for a reason. You may find that more expensive kits host invaluable features like adjustable legs which counteract uneven floors or, they may feature an in-built lip in the shower tray design, designed for tiling up to and giving a watertight finish. These seemingly insignificant variations can make a great difference during the installation process.

When preparing for your shower enclosure installation, it's always best to lay out your counterparts individually, so as to allow for ease of access and a nice methodical undertaking. Do this as close as possible, taking care to separate any glazed panels safely away from your work area.

After seeking advice from your supplier, you should have the following items readily at hand...

  • Drill
  • Pipe spring
  • Pipe-bending tool
  • Slip-joint pliers
  • Screwdriver
  • Jigsaw
  • Spirit level
  • Adjustable spanner
  • Sealant applicator
  • Complete shower cubicle kit and instructions
  • Booster pump
  • Non-return valve
  • Silicone sealant
  • Compression joints
  • Moisture-check plasterboard
  • Cement-board
  • Mortar
  • Ceramic wall tiles
  • Tile adhesive and grout
  • PVA solution
  • Shower trap

Once you've established that you have all the necessary equipment and suitable working space, follow the instructions provided and begin to install your shower tray & enclosure. It's important to think of your shower tray and actual glazed enclosure as two individual units, both of which need to be sealed using silicone.

Firstly, using a spirit level, ensure your shower tray is sat evenly and set firmly in position, remembering to use those adjustable legs where needed. Once positioned and fixed in accordance with your instructions, take your mastic gun and seal the shower tray unit.

It's then time to repeat the process by installing the actual cubicle. Once completed and your shower enclosure is square, straight and correctly positioned, seal it up as with the shower tray.

Now, the most common leakage point in an installation of this kind usually occurs where the tiles meet the enclosure, so it's imperative that this join is sealed correctly. Sealing from the inside of the enclosure is an easy mistake to make and so often proves to be the case, so seal your units from the outside where tiles meet enclosure and you'll be fine.

So, you've fitted and sealed your shower enclosure, as you did with the shower tray and together, you've sealed both at all points, from the outside, where tiles meet shower tray and cubicle... you're done!

is it safe to shower when its raining and thundering outside?

i wanna take a shower right now but in my lovely state of florida it rains 7 days a week....should i shower now? its pouring and thundering outside?

i heard u can get struck by lighting

Overall it is safe to shower at any time. The water coming out of the shower head is broken up into small droplets reducing the chances of electricity being conducted thru the water.
