Evaporative Cooler Maintenance Tips

You should always change your cooler pads as needed (every 4-6 years) for maximum cooling efficiency.  This will also create cleaner air.

Rinse your pads with a hose periodically.

Lubricate the blower assembly bearing and the motor if it has an oil receptacle with the appropriate oil.

Check belt tension it should not move more that 1 inch. and in some cases an inch may be too lose.  You want to visually look at it to see if it is sagging and if so it definatly needs replaced.

Use clean machine to flush the pan for cleaner pads, cleaner air, reduced maintanance, water savings and a longer life for your evaporative coler.

Please note do not use harsh chemicals.  Always clean with a damp rag to prevent mildew buildup.

Turn on the cooler motor and pump to test if the cooler pads are getting saturaed evenly. Check for any leaks. If cracks or holes exists, call AAA Cooler Specialists.

Winterizing your cooler

As soon as you are certain that you won't need your evaporative cooler, you need to winterize it. Much like spring preparation, you need to clean the buildup of mineral deposits so that won't harden over the winter and become difficult to get rid of.

Clean out the tray at the bottom of the cooler, and drain the water completely.

So that the water line does not freeze, disconnect the water line from the cooler and blow out the water. This is the most important winterizing step. If you can only bring yourself to do one thing, do this.  If you leave the water in there it will cause rusting and will shorten the life span of your cooler.

subzero 550 1989 freezer not cooling. 2 condensors put in, both wouldnt work. now need evap. Repair? replace?

Repairman gives up. Says buy new fridge. Freezer doesnt cool. He installed two freezer condensors .. 1st didn't work, 2nd didnt work. He says its now the evaporator as well. due to oil in the line(?). Advises me to replace with new fridge original is almost 20 years old (1989). Planning on selling house and don't want to sink $$ into new fridge but repair is costly and repairman warns that condensor for fridge is next to go. Comments?

He sounds lost and clueless. Get another contractor
