Essential Tips to know about cooling fan

People who cannot afford to buy or maintain air-conditioners can opt for cooling fans instead. Besides, cooling fans are the ideal substitute in places where installation of air-conditioners is not practicable.

There are evaporative cooling fans designed to continually cool equipment like generators and compressors. These evaporative cooling fans, as the name suggests, use power supply and water. These cooling fans find applications in   manufacturing plants, garages, military bases, gymnasiums etc. They are also used for effective spot cooling in horse stables, dog kennels and a variety of similar enclosures.

There are axial cooling fans designed to provide ventilation and spot cooling in confined areas to negate the likely heat generation. Axial cooling fans are fitted in computers, copying machines, different types of office equipments and audio and visual equipments. Axial cooling fans also find application in vending machines, telephone equipment, light projectors, TV cameras etc.

These types of cooling fans are essential as continuous flow of electricity through any medium generates heat. Certain appliances require radial blowers that move the air in a way that the air flow is perpendicular to the blower's axis. You will have to determine which type of cooler is more appropriate to the equipment.

Though circulating fans or ceiling fans are deemed by many as cooling products, they more move the prevailing air around and do not, strictly speaking, produce any form of cooling.  But ceiling fans circulate the air, and in many places, is sufficient to create a small breeze to make people comfortable.

Apart from ceiling fans, there are portable fans available in a variety of types and sizes - the most widely used ones being a table fan that oscillates.  The oscillating feature is favored by many as it enables wider area coverage.   Being portable, it can be easily shifted from one room to another.  There are also pedestal fans with or without wheels for use in larger rooms and big halls.

A room air conditioner cools the air within a confined area by extracting the moisture from within the enclosed space and thereby reducing the humidity level. The other advantage is the fine filters of the air conditioners helps to eliminate all dust and dirt and purify the captive air.

Portable air conditioners with dehumidifiers are also quite popular for room air conditioning, but costlier than a window unit.  Still more expensive but very versatile are split ductless air systems that may be classified as mini-central cooling systems.

Central air conditioning systems require heavy investment and needed for cooling entire building and other commodious structures. The drawback is sometimes they tend to cool areas that really do not require cooling.  Central air–conditioners can be installed only by qualified professionals.

Finally, you have swamp coolers that, unlike air conditioners that use compressors and refrigerants for cooling, provide cooling by evaporation process. They are understandably cheaper to operate than central air or air conditioners of larger capacities.  Swamp coolers are available in portable or as stand-alone units with coverage areas that range from a small room to larger spaces.  However, they may not perform uniformly efficiently in all climates and hence has fewer buyers.

How do I run more than one cooling fan in my computer?

I have a cooling fan in my computer and a cooling fan on my headsink, but I want my computer to be even more cooled, but theres only one plug on the motherboard for a cooling fan, How do I get another one to run.

I used a second fan from an old power supply screwed to the grill at the rear of the box. You can either use a spare power cable or use a piggyback plug, just check you have the right voltage. Make it an exhaust fan so it doesn't muck up the other fans' airflows.

Do you really need one? It may be that opening the case and clearing out the dust buildup is enough. Remember you are adding more noise and a greater current drain, so don't do it without good cause. This is especially true if you have a clear case and want a fan with lots of LED lights . . . that's just tacky!
