Tips to remember before purchasing a used camper van

Camper vans are a bit expensive. You should look into certain details before purchasing a camper van. Below are a few points:

Separate what you want from what you need:

Are you confused as to which type of used camper should you buy? Then the best solution would be to rent or use your friend’s camper van for a few days so that you can get a clear picture as to which type of model may be suitable based on your requirements. If you have lot of friends or a joint family then Class A motor homes may be best for you because it is very spacious. But one negative point is it is difficult to drive and park. If you have a small family then small camper van would be the best solution. Getting a clear picture on the type of van you require may take a few days and will save you a lot of hassle later when it comes to buying your own used camper.

Go through the Vehicle History:

Go through the history of the vehicle properly before buying it. Go through the paperwork properly, including any repair bills and receipts for spare parts. By looking at these bills you will get a proper idea as to what has been replaced and get an idea as to what needs to be replaced. Also check whether VIN number matches with the vehicle and that on all the paperwork it has the same number. Before buying the vehicle find out how many owners had it and try to contact them. Ask them did they face any problem in the vehicle when it was with them. What parts did they change?

Check out the Mechanical Side:

Before buying the used camper van or motor home do take a professional mechanic with you so that he can test drive the vehicle and also inspect other parts like engine, interior and exterior parts etc.

Check out the Bodywork:

Check outside panels, corrosion and laminating where the panels are bulging and separating from the side of the vehicle. Do check the ceiling especially in corners and on top of wardrobes or cupboards. Check for signs of damp. Check the floors in the kitchen area and the bathroom. Soft floors can indicate corroded wooden support as a result of leaking water system.

Check out fixtures and fittings:

Check whether living area is comfortable. Check other interior features like dining area, armchairs and TV is in working condition etc. Open and close every single cupboard door and locker, both inside and out. Turn everything on and off. Test everything properly. There may be certain parts that require replacement. Note down the repairs which could be helpful when negotiating the final price.

what year did VW switch the Kombi buses from split screens to just reg windwhield?

I like the 1973 interior style of the Kombi campers but i like the 1965 exterior design of the split screen and V-design in the front. Are there any like that?

1967 saw the last year of the "splitty, and the only one to feature a factory-installed 12-volt electrical system.
