How To Remove A Broken Light Bulb

Isn't it so annoying when you are in the middle of something and the light bulb always burns out!  Not to mention when you are in a hurry to replace it, only to find out that it has broken off inside the light!  I can't tell you how many times I have been in a hurry to find myself in this situation.  I have mastered the steps on how to remove a broken light bulb and how to resolve the problem and am now passing on my knowledge to you!

Have you ever heard of the Potato trick?  Well you cut it in half, then push it up into the bulb base, and twist it until it comes out.  Yes I have been told that it works, but in the few attempts that I have tried it I always end up getting super frustrated and ending up with glass everywhere!  I guess me and the potato method just don't get a long!  Its worth a shot maybe you will be more successful then I was.  

My Method is very simple and more effective!

1.  TURN OFF THE POWER

2.  Make sure animals or little ones are out of
the way, I usually lay a blanket, or garbage bag on the floor to catch the remaining broken glass if necessary.

3. I highly recommend using some sort of gloves.   I don't have work gloves, but my gardening gloves work just as well!  To keep my hands safe, Yes I  have experienced a small cut or two in my time!  So be careful!

4.  Carefully insert some pliers as far into the broken base as you can.

5.  Spread the handles, then using some force against the sides of the light bulb base, rotate your pliers counter-clockwise.

6.  Continue turning until the base is all the way out!  Wow do you see how simple that is!  And usually there isn't much of a mess to clean up!

Now the resolution to this problem could be very simple!  Start paying attention to how much you tighten your bulb the One thing to keep in mind is DON"T EVER OVER TIGHTEN YOUR BULBS... This could be your problem! If you are experiencing a lot of broken bulbs this could be an easy solution to your problems.  Only turn the bulb until you feel a slight resistance, there is no need to keep forcing the bulb into the socket!  I hope from now on you will have no problem remembering how to remove a broken light bulb!

Can I instal 5 downlights in the bathroom using the original single bulb socket?

I've got a single light bulb in th bathroom but would like to install 5 downlights. I was planning to use a junction box but not sure the implications of that if any? So, is it possible and can I use the same switch?

I convert single lights to bar lights with 3 or more bulb sockets all the time and there is not a problem. Just check the breaker size on that circuit and dont overload it.
